Power House Rowing Club was founded in 1933 by leaders of the Lord Somers Camp Groups. The Lord Somers Camps were well known in Victoria and the formation of the words "Power House" came from an address given by Lord Somers at the Melbourne Town Hall in April 1929 were he said on addressing the name:
"The Power House is the source of energy, for all movements calculated to increase social unity and to encourage wise leadership in community movements"
At the first camp Rear Admiral Napier said :
"It is possible that a brotherhood under such a name as "the Power House" will be formed to organise reunions and carry on the social service begun in the Camp"
The Power House was a group of men in Melbourne who supported the ideals and concepts of the Lord Somers Camps and from this the Rowing Club was formed. Not only for men, power house has become an equal opertunity club, and its members compete at all levels of rowing from beginner to Senior and Masters.
Power House Rowing Club is situated in Alexandra Ave, Toorak (Melways Reference 2M-D1), on the beautiful Yarra River in, Melbourne Victoria, Australia.
