Club Awards for 2008/09 Season

Most Successful Competitors

These awards are for those competitors who, by their performance on the water, have gained recognition for the Club and should thus have their performance recognized in return. The most successful oarsman, oarswoman and coxswain are determined by the number of points each rower receives for their events. These are accumulated on the following basis:1.       One point for each start in a race.2.       An extra three points for a win in a final of that event.3.       Two points for a second place in final if 3 or more crews in event.4.       1 point for a third place in final if 4 or more crews in event.5.       Half a point for making a final if heats are required.6.       0.1 points for every crew in division defeated in time trial events.7.       Championship races are awarded double points. The most successful coach is determined by the same system (results of crews, not individuals) however where 2 or more individuals share the coaching of a given crew, points are divided equally between the coaches. In the event of a tie, the winner is decided on count back of number of wins for the season.  If wins are also equal, a tie is declared and the award is shared. The Committee would like to congratulate the following people on their success throughout the 2007/08 season:

Master’s Award

This award is one of peer recognition and is based upon input by all Club athletes who competed during the Master’s season. Because of work and family commitments, Master’s athletes often do not have the opportunity to compete for the traditional awards presented by the Club each year.  This award aims to correct this imbalance and recognize our most outstanding Master for this season. This year, the Master’s Award is presented to Nicole Grant

This year, the committee would like to present the John Devlin Memorial Trophy to Nick Inglis who epitomises the true Somers spirit, “Service without recognition.”
