Hi all, Ok, the break is over, time to get back on the horse (or the ergo actually, if you insist on accuracy). Training for World Masters Games commences officially on Sat 4th of July, in 10 days from now. So, I need the following things to happen... 1) Next Monday evening (the 29th) I need as many volunteers as possible to get down to the club to help me rig, clean, repair and otherwise prepare the fleet for full training. Working bee starts at 6pm and with enough bodies we'll be done in an hour and can go celebrate on the erg. 2) Saturday the 4th of July at 9am, I need everyone who isn't sculling in the winter series and who wants to be racing at Worlds to show up at the club and have a paddle. 3) I need as many coxes as possible to put up their little hands for training availability in the dark and cold winter months - you will be cherished, spoilt and treasured to make up for the freezing wetness and grumpy rowers, I promise. And we will need others to supplement the usual suspects also - so if you feel you can help out at all if you are not eligible yourself for masters, even if you are not normally a coxswain, please consider... 4) Friday 10th of July is the cutoff to have your first 20min ergo score in. So if you've been off the machine since Rocky, get back on now! Not expecting miracles, but you probably should be within about 250m of where you would like to be come October (as a rough guide). 5) Jump on the World Masters Games website and make yourself familiar with the procedure for registering and the costs involved. If you still want to go, you must confirm with me. 6) We will start to form crews through July around the core of the crews that raced so well at Rockhampton. In many cases this time around we will select 2nd and sometimes even 3rd crews in the one event. Be warned however, just putting your hand up is not sufficient to be guaranteed a spot in a #1 crew. We will be competing against the best in the world and will be putting our best foot forward in all divisions and classes. So bring your best fitness and form. 7) Get back on the erg and into the gym. The club is open for business every week night, and is rarely full. If you can't get on an erg immediately, throw some weights around or go running. At least one of Bingles, Shane or myself will be available most nights to advise on erg sessions (I will continue with the set ergs via email after the initial testing). Chappy is available some nights to assist with gym programs - email her to organise a time. Look forward to seeing you all Monday night, then again on the 4th. Cheers, Drew |
