Hi all, A quick rundown of results for Sunday... FB2- Nic, Alissa Another headwind hurt our 100kg pair. Whilst they finished strongly to place 2nd in the heat, the pace in the final was too hot, and the girls finished a creditable 4th. Bring on the tailwinds! MD1x Pete B Pete continues to improve, making the C final this time, finishing 4th. MC4+ Roland, Angelo, Pete L, Dave H (Tara) The guys ran into their (now nemesis) Barwon in the heat, losing narrowly. As expected, they then won the B final comfortably, whilst Barwon did the same in the A final. Bring on States. FD2x Jen, Alissa The first outing for these two resulted in an easy heat win, followed by a (not fully exerted!) 3rd in the final. We'll see the best of this boat in 11 days time. MA4+ Bingles, Drew, Hatsy, Shane (Nic) Lack of genuine competition here resulted in an easy win. MD8+ Pete C, John D, Doug, Jeff, Brendon, Mike, Heath, Rick (Caitlin) This boat continues to improve, but remains off the pace for the present, 2nd of two in a first and final. Perserverence is key. FB4+ Kate, Chap, Amanda, Greer (Nic) Up against a strong MRC crew, the girls didn't have the best row, but still managed 2nd in this first and final. MA2- Drew, Shane Again, moderate competition allowed an gentle return to racing for the A pair. Easy win. MD2+ Pete L, Angelo (Caitlin) Significant improvement here for the guys, finishing 2nd in a full field. Another genuine State Title chance. MB2- Alex, Andrew Steering issues for Geelong college saw our guys cruise through to the final, only to finish 3rd to 2 other GC crews - incidentally some of the best schoolboy rowers going around. Plenty of time and improvement available for Andrew and Alex. FC4+ Amanda, Greer, Sarah, Felicity (Tara) A poor row in the heat nevertheless resulted in a win and a spot in the A final. Unfortunately, the crew remained unsettled and managed only 3rd place. Nothing went right on the day - look forward to next week! MB4+ Dave H, Jeremy, Andrew, Alex (Caitlin) The guys pulled out a gutsy, if scrappy row to narrowly win their heat, but couldn't reproduce later in the day, finishing last in the final. FD2+ Sarah, Felicity (Alissa) An easy heat win, followed by an inevitable and not entirely desired win in the final had a happy ending - the RV gods have spoken and the girls are still eligible for the D pair at States. Win/win! MD4+#1 Heath, John D, Jeff, Doug (Caitlin) Great row by these guys as they won their heat and went on to a solid 3rd place in the A final. MD4+#2 Pete C, Mike, Brendon, Rick (Tara) Equally impressive from these four (five), with a strong 2nd in the heat translating into the same position in the A final. Power House 2 and 3! FA4+ Kate, Chap, Jen, Alissa (Nic) Missing Yvette, Alissa stepped up into the bowseat and did a fabulous job. In the end however, lack of horsepower into the wind told, and the girls went down by 1 length in a super row. MA1x Bingles Bingles got beaten by a schoolboy!!!! :-) MA2x Drew, Bingles Drew and Bingles got beaten by old men... :-( MB8+ Roland, Dave, Pete L, Andrew, Alex, Shane, Jeremy, Hatsy (Nic) Top row by the guys here saw them reverse the result to Corio of two weeks ago, this time running out winners by around 2 lengths. Another strong performance, 4 wins and a few close second placings. Things look good for States. Thanks again go to Heath for towing the boats there and back, and also to Pete Benson, who gave up his afternoon to perform our clubs BRO duties. Please make your appreciation known to these two. I have to note a fantastic performance from Shane O'Connor-Smith who raced on Sunday after travelling to Nagambie on Saturday to contest the Elite Victorian State Titles in the single. Shane made the final along with 5 Mercantile scullers, eliminating all MUBC scullers along the way. As the sole black and green in a sea of white and red, Shane had a great row, finishing 5th in the final, only 11 seconds behind Bejing gold medallist David Crawshay. This is a truly exceptional performance from a bloke who only hits the water 2 or 3 times a week! Cheers, Drew |
