Medal tally
Female B Grade Coxed Four Andrews*,Lamaro,Carrigy,Tainton,c:Spivakovsky 1st in heat 1st in final by 1/2 a length A very good row from the girls, and perhaps their best for the weekend against some very good competition from Yarra Yarra.
Male A Grade Coxed Four "WIMMERA SPRINT FOUR CHAMPIONSHIP" White*,Winnen,Inglis,Inglis,c:Ripper 1st in final by 1 1/2 lengths Geoff white stepped up big time for this event, and kicked off his dimboola campaign with a smashing win over Banks and Footsgray. A fast start, and a formidable top speed put the powerhouse crewl ahead of the banks combination by the bend. The aging cylinders in the bow pair never faltered, and the crew cleared away from the competition. The excited cries from Geoff Pullin could clearly be heard by the crew as they savoured the last 300.
Female D Grade Coxed Pair Grant,Lazarus 1st in final by 3-4 lengths Jules and Elle slaughtered the opposition in this race. The other crews were outclassed by the dynamic duo.
Male Masters Coxed Four (A-C) Power House Composite: (Lowe*(FOOT),Lucas(UWABC),Inglis,Inglis,c:Ripper) (B) 1st by a margin of 1 3/4 lengths Banks/Power House: (Boyd,Winnen(PHRC),McCoy,Reynolds,c:Thompson) (C) 2nd Despite snagging a portion of the winning A four, a 4 second head start, and a restart, the winnen combination was unable to capitalise on their advantages. An astutely called surge put the powerhouse boys ahead shortly after the bend, and a further lift was not needed, as the wheels fell off the Banks composite crew. Jeff Lowe has having his first race with the club in 15 years and was very pleased with the result. As well as being his clubs captain, Peta's main squeeze, he is also a powerhouse of a man. his assets were truely appriciated, and were one of the reasons why this scratch crew won in such style.
Male Masters Coxed Four (E-F) (Smith,White,Benson,Hodges,c:Spivakovsky) (F) 2nd by a canvas The Four stroked by Benson had a stirlling rythym, and held their advantage off the start right up until the last few strokes before the line. The gents were kicking themselves for having lost such a close race. Beaten by the Banks composite crew, but coming ahead of the argonauts who were never in the hunt.
Mixed Eight (Division 2) Power House/UWABC: Lazarus,Grant,White*,Lucas(UWABC),Inglis,Lamaro,Rule*,Inglis,c:Ripper first by a very small margin Melbourne Uni Composite: Boyd,Sullings,Smith,Winnen(PHRC),Williams,Hosking,Peacock,Grayston,c:Palfreyman 2nd The race of the day. Bruce was again playing mercenary having forsaken his selection in the PHRC combination. A last minute replacement by Geoff White was called for, a swift change of sides for the every versatile Garth, and a cunning race plan would see the crew through to a stunning finish. Bruce tried to mitigate his evils by sabotaging the Melb university boat, but unfortunately his swapping of a bow side oar for a stroke side blade was picked up after they pushed off. The Stewart was sorely tested off the start, and the PHRC combination found themselves a good length behind, but the crew mitigated there losses with a stunning surge after the bend. The rating dropped, and the length came on, and the old JB Stewart surged into the straight. Pulling level with the crowd at fever pitch , miss ripper called the final lift perhaps a stroke earlier than the MUBC boat did. Bow ball to bow ball, rating 39, the phrc combination smashed over the line winning by the smallest of margins. twas the most enjoyable and heart felt victories i have experienced. bloody excellent.
Male C Grade Coxed Four (Smith,Daniel,Hodges*,Inglis,c:Spivakovsky) 3rd place, 11 seconds behind Melbourne Trying out a new rower to the cause, the PHRC crew had a good row, but were not in the hunt. No crabs were caught, no one was ejected, no coxes were harmed making this event.
Female Masters Coxed Four (A) Rule,Tainton,Carrigy,Andrews,c:Giarratana (A) 2nd by 1 1/2 lengths Earlier in the day the girls trumped Yarra in the B four, but this row did not fair so well.
Female A Grade Coxed Eight Grant,Lazarus,Carrigy,Lamaro,Rule,Tainton,Ripper*,Andrews,c:Spivakovsky 3rd in final (3 seconds to second, a further 5 seconds to first) Fearing for their new recruit, two-sie (caitlin ripper), the crew went out at a sedate pace, and had a good row, finishing 8 seconds behind the eventual winners from Carry in their super dooper canadian boat. Caitlin went through the gamit of emotions of racing for the first time. the bouncing butterflys, the adrenalin surge, the hole that it leaves, and the weakness of being that comes with it. She felt exillerated, yet somehwhat drained, wanting more. Much to bingy's disapointment Caitlin was not catapaulted from the boat
Male A Grade Single Scull Nick Inglis 1st in heat by a length 2nd in final by a friggen bow ball Bingy set about racing the single with a convincing win of Phill Reynolds in the heat. But the final was no picnic. A young Bendigo sculler(Andrew Sinclair) set about ruining Bingys day. The pair matched each other stroke for stroek down teh course, duplicating their start, settle, and lifts. A bloody good race to be involved in, but a devastating result. The bendigo sculler steered a slightly straighter course, and managed his effort well, matching the late challenge by nicholas over the dying strokes.
Male Masters Coxed Eight Banks Composite: (Boyd,Sullings,Smith,McCabe,McQueen,Winnen(PHRC),McCoy,Reynolds,c:Muntz) (D) 1st Power House Composite: (Lowe*(FOOT),Smith,Benson,White,Hodges,Lucas(UWABC),Inglis,Inglis,c:Ripper) (C) 2nd by 2 seconds Again we faced bruce playing mercenary. loosing John O'Dowd from the crew, meant we slipped into C grade, and had to give the banks crew a 3 second start. But of greater concern were Pam Westerndorf's crew who were to also race against us. They are a highly skilled crew, including some out and out champions.. the guys did not want to loose to the girls. As expected the JB Stewart lost a little ground on the start, before we started the process of winding everyone back. The girls in their hudson kept their 3 second advanatge till well over half distance. but we broke them with a surge, and headed for the banks combo. The wind to the finish was stella, and the crew fought valiantly, but twas to no avail, bruce's mercenaries beat us. But by less than what they started with.
