Power House Rowing Club is thrilled to welcome Breheny Bros Brewery as our newest club sponsor — and if you know anything about Australian brewing history, you’ll know this partnership is something special.
The Breheny story begins in 1854, when John and Bridget Breheny arrived in Geelong from Tynagh, Ireland with their seven children. Just a decade later, their son John launched the family’s brewing legacy by transforming an old marine stockade in Williamstown into the Marine Stockade Brewery. It was the first chapter in what would become a remarkable, nation‑spanning brewing dynasty.
Across the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Breheny name appeared on breweries from Bendigo to Adelaide, Toowoomba to Perth, and even within the early foundations of what would become some of Australia’s most iconic beer brands. The family brewed at — and often led — operations such as the Warrenheip Brewery, Gippsland Brewery, Walkerville Co‑operative, City Brewery Co., Melbourne Co‑operative Brewery, and more. For decades, if you enjoyed a great Australian beer, chances are a Breheny had a hand in it.
After nearly a century away from the industry, the family’s descendants proudly revived the tradition in 2021, re‑establishing Breheny Brothers Brewery and bringing their pioneering spirit into a new era.
For Power House Rowing Club, this partnership is more than a sponsorship — it’s a collaboration with a family whose values mirror our own: heritage, resilience, community, and a love of bringing people together. We’re excited about the opportunities this creates for our members, our events, and our club culture.
In addition to providing discounted products across their beer range, Brehenys are also very keen to be involved in supporting specific functions and promotions at the club as a key partner with Power House Rowing Club. We will officially launch our commercial relationship with Breheny Bros at the club on Saturday 21st Febraury following Henley regatta races. A beer tasting and education session being the perfect way to celebrate a day’s racing.
Here’s to new beginnings, shared stories, and raising a Breheny brew after a hard‑earned row. We look forward to a lengthy and fruitful relationship with Breheny Bros Breweries.
