Power House Rowing Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Ryan as the club’s inaugural Director of Development.
Matt is well known across Victorian, Australian and international rowing as a World Champion, Olympian and highly experienced coach. He brings a significant depth of rowing knowledge to this newly established role, both from his time as an elite athlete and from his work in coaching and athlete development.
As a rower, Matt’s achievements include gold in the men’s coxed four at the 2002 World Junior Championships, gold in the coxed four at the 2004 World Under 23 regatta, and Olympic silver in the coxless four at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He also rowed in the bow seat of the Australian Men’s Eight at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Since retiring from competitive rowing, Matt has continued to contribute to the sport through coaching and development roles, including an eight-year period as Head of High Performance at Melbourne University Boat Club. He also continues as Head Coach at Wesley and has recently taken on a senior role at Sykes Rowing.
At Power House, Matt will work with Head Coach Patrick Rocek in an oversight and development role, helping to build a more comprehensive rowing program across the club. This will include support for Learn to Row, Come and Try, Development Squad, Senior Squads and Masters Squads, with the aim of creating clearer pathways for members at different stages of their rowing.
This appointment is part of a broader effort to strengthen the club’s rowing program, support member development, and position Power House for long-term growth. It follows the appointment of Patrick Rocek as Head Coach and reflects the club’s continued investment in coaching, development and the future of PHRC.
