She Moves Stonnington, an initiative run by our local stonnington council was implemented in an effort to help women and girls find their movement last month. The program offered low-cost fitness events across Melbourne in a welcoming, supportive way, encouraging women and girls to get active and try something new. On offer were pilates classes, mum’s soccer, walking netball, run clubs, fitness classes, biking, skating, and thanks to Powerhouse, rowing.
It was a highly successful program with a total of 38 women and girls attending Power House’s ‘come and try’ day.
Participants were welcomed into the club by our captain Alex, head coach Patrick, development squad coach Abi, and several of our members. After a brief history and a tour of our sheds, participants had an opportunity to learn new skills on the erg, in the tank, and on the water. Their skill and confidence grew throughout the session, with many commenting how enjoyable the sport is and what a privilege it was to have access to our club. Many of these women have now committed to the next stage of their rowing journey, and will join us for the ‘Learn to Row’ program beginning in May. We look forward to welcoming these women into our community.
A special thanks to Em, Alex, Janelle, Cate, Phil, Sarah, and Nigel for another successful event.
